An international conference concerning cross – border insolvency took place on 6-7 May 2011 in Brussels on the occasion of the celebrations of 25 anniversary of the European Association of Lawyers. Speakers were top-class insolvency lawyers from all over Europe, including: prof. Stefania Bariatti (The University of Milan), Mr Yvan Verougstraete ( former first president of the Belgian Supreme Court, author on insolvency law), prof. Eric van Haute (Universite Libre in Brussels), Mr Charles-Antoine Leunen (partner, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Brussels), Mr Jerome Carriat (European Comission, DG Justice Freedom and Security).

Agata Adamczyk - attorney at law from our law firm and the author of publication concerning practical aspects of applying art. 5 of Council regulation (EC) No 1346/2000 of 29 May 2000 on insolvency proceedings – took part in the conference. Participation in the Congress let us deepen the knowledge on the enterprises restructuring, the problems of forum shopping and the protection of the creditors’ rights in proceedings before foreign courts. It was also a unique opportunity to discuss plans for the revision of the Regulation with the representative of the European Commision.
